Lighting is an integral part of your home’s overall environment and that is why is very important that you have your interior home lighting scheme properly set up in order to achieve the perfect ambiance every home needs. Lighting your home and lighting in itself is the most commanding component if interior design; without ample lighting in your home, there can be a muted and often gloomy vibe and that can simply mean that there are not enough fixtures for the size of the space.
Whether you’re building a brand new or home just need an update, it is definitely important to consider a fresh approach to your lighting plan. Lighting fixtures are a wonderful enhancement to the interior design of your home as well – there is an unlimited amount of styles, colors, shapes and types of lighting out there for you to choose from and find that perfect style to add to your space.
Style – Think about what your taste is. Whether you’re starting from scratch or trying to renovate your home’s current décor, style is definitely an important factor to reflect on as it can often make or break the end result of the design process. If you have an already busy interior design, like ornate, showy or patterned furniture, wall art, drapery or wallpaper, consider going for simplicity with your lighting. More transitional pieces will balance and harmonize with what you’ve currently got going on.
Finish – The finish of your fixtures can become a daunting decision as there are plenty of choices out there to sometimes confuse you, when all you really wanted was a simple nickel finish. Finish choice can often become the most fundamental yet essential decisions to make when choosing your light fixtures. It is the key component of the design and can either enhance or minimize the design scheme of your home. There are, of course some finishes that archaic and some that remain a well-liked choice in light fixtures for decades – try a polished nickel, chrome or darker bronze if you don’t want to take a fancy route with your finish.
Identify the activities that occur within each room of your home as well as what mood or ambiance you want to achieve and from there you can figure out exactly what kind of light it may need and from there you can pick the perfect style and finish to coincide. Don’t forget the basic lighting types – ambient, task, accent and decorative lighting.
The lighting design within your home is what you make it so make sure you have fun while picking out the fixtures that reflect you and your style most.
