Ceiling fans are not only a very practical addition to the home but they also provide a stylish supplement for both your indoor and outdoor areas. When it comes to finding a ceiling fan for an area of your home that is damp rated or outdoors, like an outdoor covered section or porch, you must remember to look for a fan that is “UL Listed for Damp Locations” or “UL Listed for Wet Locations.”
Both types of ratings are designed to be exposed to the elements without any kind of risk of electrical damage or danger, designed specifically to endure environmental stresses like moisture, heat or rain. It is important to remember that if your ceiling fan will be exposed directly to any kind of rain or wetness, it should be a wet location fan. A damp location fan can be installed in areas like a screened in porch or sunroom, a wide porch where rain cannot get in, any area that is completely covered where rain cannot reach as well as bathrooms with a tub or shower.
All Modern Fan Company ceiling fans are rated and marked as “Suitable for Damp Location” – Modern Fan Company offers a variety of fan designs in more contemporary styles that are durable for your outdoor or damp location indoor areas of the home.
According to modernfanco.com, always consider the environmental factors when selecting you fan because they say that although you can anticipate your fan to have sound performance for years to come in damp locations, “the degree to which the appearance of a fan may be impacted by the environment will vary widely.”
Modern Fan Company is a company that provides customers with contemporary designs that are “both technically and artfully appealing” and are very modern, so if you are looking for a more classic design for your ceiling fan, Minka Aire Ceiling Fans also have a selection of damp location fans that range from contemporary to traditional.
A fun way to go with ceiling fan design with Minka Aire is a more tropical fashion for the outdoors, like the Gauguin fan with lavish Bahama beige blades or the Shangri-La collection of fans.
Emerson Ceiling Fans is another brand that brings functionality and style to the table with their wide selection of damp location and wet location fans. Try the Summer Night series of outdoor area fans, which are designed specifically for “any outdoor area where you need to create a breeze but don’t want to worry about the elements.” They are weather-resistant and great for covered porches, decks or patios, according to emersonfans.com.

Ceiling fans offer not only a functionality to your space but also provides a stylish and industrial element. All of the various style options come in a wonderful array of colors and finish options that harmonize beautifully together. Here are some of our favorite ceiling fan finish combinations:
This is one of Emerson’s Luxe Eco fans that incorporate sleek and modern elements and utilizes finishes relevant to today’s home fashion – this specific Luxe Eco fan is in a warm oil-rubbed bronze finish with walnut blades, the combination of the different color browns and russet hues bring a traditional vibe to this already contemporary fan.
The Torto fan by Fanimation features a dramatic design that puts “a new twist to an old friend” and this specific finish is actually new to Fanimation’s contemporary line of Torto fans – a deep, dark black finish set against a frost glass light kit. Whether it’s this sleek black finish you like for the Torto, any finish fan with this design is sure to be the coveted centerpiece to your space.
Minka Aire’s Artemis fans come in so many finish variations it would be difficult to figure out which one fits your space’s energy – one of our picks would be the subtle maple finish with the etched opal glass. The fan’s lighter tone can balance with more transitional and modern decors and the unique shape of the three-bladed fan adds that touch of pizazz and style.
Don’t forget that most fans also come in a polished nickel finish that usually balances well with almost any blade finish – the combo of the nickel finish with say, a walnut or cherry finished blade can be that final touch of style and originality your space needs.

One of the best ways to achieve a nice breeze or some solid airflow within a small room or workspace (rooms that tend to hinder the ability to install any type of ceiling fan) is with the very classic selection of portable fans from Fanimation.
The best part about Fanimation’s collection of portable fans is their unique and very timeless designs; some of their most popular portable fans are the Fargo and the Old Havana, which, according to fanimation.com, “were inspired by antique fans in Tom Frampton’s extensive collection. Although the fans have distinctly different looks and features, they share a common history.”
These fans were motivated by a fan Frampton saw in an antique shop, a more updated version of the Savory Aerator, and the result was the Fargo; according to Fanimation, “the Fargo showcases the same globe shaped cage as the original Aerator fan, however the base of the Fargo is more modernized and features classic accents.”
A wonderful part about these fans, especially the Fargo, is that they create a very effective breeze that won’t disturb an area of work (in your office or at home desk).
Some other models of Fanimation’s portable fans are the Old Havana, bringing home the tropics with its unique design; the Urbanjet, a more retro version of the portable fan; and the Arden, a wonderfully distinct design with wooden long legs to create an ample breeze within your space.

Using tropical style fans in the home isn’t often a top choice in design for many people but with the right blade color and specific materials, tropical fans can be a wonderfully inviting addition to your space.
Ceiling fans grace almost every room in the home and are at the center of the space; it is important to not only have an efficient fan with great airflow but also have a fan that is stylish and with the design and aesthetic of these fans, you can’t go wrong.
Fanimation features an array of tropical ceiling fans collections with various settings for their design inspirations.
According to fanimation.com, their tropical fans are created with “organic and natural materials, such as real palm leaf blades and beautifully designed, rich bamboo blades to create a feeling of Island Living in your home.”
Fanimation has a selection of their top-selling tropical fans and included on that list is the Cancun collection, the Belleria, the Palisade and the Cancun; the Islander was inspired by the Palisade, and both were designed by Tom Frampton, founder of Fanimation.

Fanimation is a company that has been creating uniquely crafted ceiling fans with matchless blade shapes, designs and materials with premier motors and technical enhancements for years now. Fanimation’s story is motivating and worthy of note; throughout the years, since about 1984, this company has become successfully what it is today.
According to fanimation.com, it was Tom Frampton, founder and CEO of Fanimation that began it all; he spent his entire life working in the ceiling fan industry.
As stated on fanimation.com, “It all started twenty-seven years ago with a man, a garage, a concept and a dream. The man was Tom Frampton, his garage was in Pasadena, Calif., his concept was to design unique and innovative ceiling fans and his dream was to channel his passion for creating high quality ceiling fans into a revenue producing enterprise.”
Here is a short but intriguing rundown of Fanimation “Through the Years.” The below information may be cited at fanimation.com.

To begin the selection of your ceiling fan you should determine the size of the room that you would like the fan to be installed in. Once you have the dimensions of the room you can select the size of the fan you will need for the space. Here is a little key for you to know what size to choose from:
• Up to 75 square foot room – 29-36” fan
• 76-144 square foot room – 36-42” fan
• 144-225 square foot room – 44” fan
• 225-400 square foot room – 50-54”fan
Once you have calculated the size of the fan, you should find the price range you would like to be in. If the fan will be used in an area like the bedroom or office, the team at Littman Bros Lighting recommends using a better quality fan so you will hear less noise coming from the fan.
After you have determined the size and price range of the fan, it is up to you to pick the style (the fun part). Some other things to consider will be whether you want a light on the fan and what type of control you deem works best in your space.

It is important to get the ultimate performance from your ceiling fan and if a fan is wobbly it is not accurately circulating the air through the room. If a fan is wobbly it could be from various things; loose screws, warped or unbalanced fan blades or the fan is just not properly installed. Here are some tips to correct a wobbly fan:
• Initially, you should get a ladder and once up by the fan, hold onto it and attempt to shake it. If it moves easily then it is most likely the screws loose by the junction box. Detach the canopy and check to see if the junction box is secure in the ceiling – make sure to tighten all the screws and bolts just to double check everything is secure.
• Tighten all the screws holding the blades to the fan motor.
• Make sure the blades are not bent, warped or even out of their correct positions and that they are centered. In order to check this you can get a measuring device, a yardstick would be good, and measure the distance from the tip of one blade to the ceiling. From there, rotate the fan and see if the rest of the blades measure the same distance. If there are some higher or lower just adjust them accordingly.
• If your fan is hanging from a long rod then it is typical you might experience some wobbling. If this bothers you, try switching to a shorter rod and it should resolve the problem.
